Peace. Ah, such a potent word. Peace on earth seems like a fantasy these days. Violence against innocent school children, insane threats and cyber hacking. The local news is packed with DUI deaths, missing persons and car chases. People are sad, broke, over worked, tired… sick. I hear it all the time because I’m that kind of listener as well as a magnet for details. Maybe it’s my writer curiosity to hear everything or maybe I have a big heart and it shows… or both. I feel big and I am so sorry for all the suffering in the world, let alone in my own backyard.
I want to say, to one and all that the greatest lesson I have ever learned is to take a deep breath and hold back on your reaction. Grab the nicest thing to cuddle, a warm beverage, (or one on the rocks) possibly a piece of chocolate or baked good and call a friend or recall something funny. Distract yourself quickly and stay there long enough to let that bad news or situation fade – even a few decibels. Then decide how you feel.
Of course there is yoga, meditation, the gym, a run, a hike, a dance… but a laugh works best.
PACE for all of us.
