Red – as a color – says assertive, confident, passionate, strong, spontaneous, sexy. And yet many women choose to wear clear gloss or nothing at all on their lips. Are they shy, intimidated, afraid or maybe uninterested in beauty altogether? All are valid, all are real. Red lipstick can be daunting if you’ve never worn it, but when you find the right shade for yourself, be prepared to get some big attention and to face the world with attitude and style.
Nothing makes you as alive like a gorgeous shade of red. It feels indulgent, luscious, decadent. It’s a statement of confidence. I see a strong connection between the desire to wear red lips and one’s passion to be seen, to be heard. When you wear cherry lips you don’t mutter or whisper — you have something brave to say and you go for it!
I’m a Leo, have bright red hair by choice, not birth, but still – I came to learn I was hiding.
I met beauty expert and make-up artiste Gina Brooke, petite yet powerful, long shiny dark hair, with bold red lips. We hung out for days, talked beauty and writing projects, ate tons of organic food and laughed. And everyday she had on those luscious red lips. We’re both from New York and don’t hold back, so when she asked me if I ever wear red lips I said, “Not in the day, I leave that to the divas.” Undaunted, she opened her bag and gave me Makeup Forever’s Aqua Rouge #8, a lipstick she’d created for Madonna’s MMDA tour. She put it one me and that was it.
Bold, sassy, hot.
I asked her what red lips meant to her. “On most mornings, I wake up and think to myself, it feels like a red lipstick kind of day! Nothing makes me feel alive like a gorgeous shade of red. There’s something about bright red that grabs you. It’s my lavish statement of self-worth. It’s the classic vixen color of old Hollywood and yet, is timeless. It makes a bold statement and contrary to popular belief, everyone can wear red lips.
